HAZEL, SCOTT "SCOTTY" Mr. Scott "Scotty" Raymond Hazel of Rockford, age 55, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 23, 2014, after a short, but hard-fought battle with a rare cancer. He died surrounded and lifted up by his caring family and many friends. He was a wonderful husband to his...

Not sure what to say?

Scott and I drove his sister Denise up to Michigan Tech one Summer, and we ended up diving off of twenty foot rock cliffs into Lake Superior - about the coldest water I've ever been in, but we were young and had a great time! I always had fun with him!

Thinking of you! The gift you were to others and the inspiration for Random Acts of Hazel...but mostly just thinking of my girl Tammy and saying hey, I remember its that time of year. Sending Love and hugs!

Scotty and I attended NMU together. He was a Resident Assistant in Carey Hall the same year that I lived there. He was very charismatic and charming even as a young man. I fondly remember spending many a "study break" hanging out and laughing in our RDs office with Scotty and "his entourage". I'm not at all surprised to learn that he was a devoted and loving spouse, parent, coach and teacher. No doubt some of his enthusiasm for life rubbed off a bit on everyone who met him.

Rest in...

Sue, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I wish I could have made it to the service, but I'm glad you are surrounded by loving family and friends. Thoughts and prayers are with you and your children.

I knew Scotty from hanging out with his little sister Tammy. He was a sweetheart. I'm so sorry to see such a great one called so early. I have faith he was called for a purpose. His life was certainly purposeful. God bless everyone who is grieving his loss. Love to the family. RAH are eminent.

Hazel was a great teacher even though I was never in his classes. He brightened the days at school. He would not end the CSHS fight song until everyone participated. Most of all, I will never forget the speech he made for the 2010 graduating class. Hazel will be greatly missed by past, present, and future students as well as teachers.

Thanks for being the best art teacher. The skills I learned from you allowed me to get into Kendall College. Beth Freeman

Very sad, can't believe he's gone on to be with the Lord. He was my soccer coach and youth leader at Rockford Baptist 16 years ago (has it really been that long?) He was more than a teacher and a coach. He was the type of person you would expect to be able to go back and get wisdom from all through your life. He seemed to know everything about life, relationships, everything. A very wise man who loved life. I know he changed many lives in small and big ways and would have continued to...

My deepest sympathies to the Hazel family. I remember Scott as a very creative and caring person whose smile always brightened the hallways of Flint Southwestern. I'm certain he is smiling down upon all of us now. May he rest in peace.
