Scott Hunter was my mentor in my very first full-time job with The Aiken Standard in December 1976. Scott was not just a mentor, but a friend as well. Scott was one of the best people that I have ever known -- and I always will be grateful for his guidance and his friendship.

Sorry to hear about the passing of the sports writer that came to my high school in Graniteville back in the late seventies to interview players and take photos. As I grew older I always thought about and wondered if he was still with the Aiken Standard newspaper. He was a great unforgettable reporter.May God Bless his family!

Heaven has gained one of it's dearest earth angels. Aiken is a far better place because of Scott Hunter. He made a much better person of me, too. Rest well my dear friend. You will be missed.

My mother taught journalism for many years at USC-Aiken. Once Scott borrowed one of her textbooks to use for an in-house refresher course for his reporters at the Aiken Standard. When he returned the book a few weeks later, he handed my mother two copies. One was a brand-new copy. The other copy had been chewed to pieces by Scott's puppy. Scott had pasted and taped together the damaged book as best he could. But what made a real impression on my mother was that he had painstakingly recopied...
