Scott Reed

Age 58, of Valparaiso, formerly of Griffith, IN, passed away suddenly on Monday, November 11, 2024. He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Jennifer Reed (nee Giacomin); best friend and son, Spencer; dad, Ray Setmayer, brother, Mark (Kathy) Reed; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; in-laws, Frances and Arthur Giacomin, brother-in-law, Jon (Nanette) Giacomin; precious pet “Dino”. Preceded in death by his dearest mother, Dorothy Setmayer; and father, Russell Reed.

Scott was a 1984 graduate of Griffith High School, he then received his degree in business administration from IUN. He worked as a financial analyst. He enjoyed skiing, gardening, running, traveling to Coconut Grove, FL and spending time with his precious family. He loved delivering his garden harvest to many friends and neighbors. Scott's enthusiasm for life also shone through his hobbies. He bowled for many years in a league in Valparaiso, sharing camaraderie and friendly competition with his teammates. Music was another of Scott's great loves, with classic rock and blues filling his days and bringing him deep joy. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, warmth, and passion for the things he loved.  He will be dearly missed and cherished by all who knew him.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, November 17, 2024, from 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM at Solan Pruzin Funeral Home, 14 Kennedy Ave., Schererville, IN 46375. A service celebrating Scott’s life will be held at 6:00 PM with Fr. Jeffrey D. Burton officiating. Services conclude at the funeral home.

Jennifer and Spencer, my heart breaks for you and your family during this difficult time. As both your Aberdeen neighbor and Scott's co-worker at Phoenix POI, where our offices faced each other, I came to know what a good person he was. On many occasions, he spoke kindly and highly of his boy, Spencer. Please know that you're in my thoughts and prayers in your loss.

Jennifer, We want to thank you for bringing Scott into our lives. We first met Scott at Autumn Fest flipping burgers with Chris. Next, I found myself working side by side with Scott serving up marshmallows in hot cocoa (Sippin' with Santa). I quickly noticed how happy Scott was working beside you at events. Scott possessed a generous spirit always lending a helping hand while making sure all were having fun. He brought joy and laughter to every event/outing. We know his primary purpose on...
