SHORKEY, SCOTT ANTHONY Florida Formerly of Standish, MI Upon the sudden and tragic death of Scott Anthony Shorkey, age 43, on December 27, 2013, his family is devastated, but also comforted knowing he is now free from pain and struggle in his earthly life. He was born on September 12, 1970 to Ron and Dot (Houghteling) Shorkey in Bay City, MI. Scott was an outstanding athlete at Standish Sterling Central. He had a heart full of love for his family, and had qualities within himself of which many were unaware. He was a gentle and compassionate man who always wore a smile to make others happy no matter what he was feeling. He had a great strength to live with his burdens, but not quite enough strength to overcome them. May you rest in peace, Our Love, and know you will be in our hearts forever and ever. Scott leaves behind his beloved son Qwinn Scott Shorkey (an SVSU student); his mom and dad Ron and Dot Shorkey; his sister, Sheli (Todd) Peplinski; his nieces, Faith and Lexie Peplinski; Grandmother Bessie Houghteling; and many uncles, aunts and cousins. Preceding him in death are Grandmother Katherine Shorkey, Grandfather Edward Shorkey, Grandfather Irwin Houghteling and Uncle Lynn Owen. Scott's funeral service will take place on Friday, January 3, 2014 at 7 PM at the R.O. Savage Funeral Chapel in Standish, with Devin Chisholm officiating. Family will greet friends at the chapel from 3 PM until service time. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to: Qwinn Scott Shorkey's Educational Trust, c/o Patrick R. Winter P.L.C., Attorney at Law, PO Box 939, Standish, MI 48658.

Scott & Qwinn 2010

To all who have sent their condolences - thank you. We are not handling the loss of Scott very well. He always called on holidays and never forgot a birthday. We are thankful for the memories he has left for all of you as well as our own. He was precious, we always told him how much we loved him and hope that he took those thoughts with him in his journey to heaven. Ron and Dot, so very sorry to hear about Scott, our prayers and thoughts are with you.

My deepest sympathy to all of the Shorkey family. Scott was a good friend and classmate, and an awesome teammate. Many of my best memories from high school occurred on the football and baseball fields at SSC. Scott was special athlete, inspiring both his teammates and our opponents. I remember one of the games in our undefeated freshman season where Scott scored on about a 70 yard touchdown on a pitch to the left, but it got called back for holding. So the next play was a pitch to the...

Ron, Dot, Sheli & Qwinn - Jeff & I cannot express our sadness and just how much Scott meant to us. Know that he has finally found the peace that evaded him here on Earth and that he is basking in the Glory of God in Heaven. Please pick up a copy of "Heaven Is For Real" by Todd Burpo; I promise you won't regret reading. Love and God's comfort to all of you.

Ron, Dot, Sheli, Quinn & family. It is at times like this that you need to lean on your friends and family. Just know that Harold & I are here for you in this time of need, rather it be a hug, or a shoulder to lean on. Harold cared deeply for Scott and wishes now he would have been there more for Scott and would have stayed in contact with him when he moved to FL. Whenever I saw Scott, he always treated me with respect and a big and warm smile. We pray you find some comfort knowing he is...
