SPC Scott Daniel Smith, 36, of Indianapolis passed from this life on Friday, June 17th, 2011 while serving in Operation Enduring Freedom in Khowst province, Afghanistan. He was born on March 29, 1975 in Indianapolis, Indiana, to James Daniel and Marva Kay (Shields) Smith. Scott spent his childhood in Morgan County, graduating from Mooresville High School with the class of 1993. Following graduation, he enlisted in the US Marine Corps and served from August 13, 1994 – August 12, 1998. He then served a couple of years in the Marine and Army Reserves following his active duty with the Marine Corps. In 2008 he enlisted into the Indiana National Guard, in which he was deployed to the 81st Troop Command supporting Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. On September 12, 1998 he married Kristina Marie (Boling) Smith. She survives in Indianapolis. Scott was a defense and aerospace systems technician at Raytheon Corporation in Indianapolis, where he had been employed for several years. He had a love for the military and being a soldier, but his greatest passion was his three daughters. He was a dedicated father, coaching their various basketball and soccer teams. When time permitted, he also enjoyed drawing and painting. Scott will be sadly missed and always remembered by his family and friends including his wife, Kristina Smith; 3 daughters, Brittany Nicole, Cami Marie and Delaney Danielle Smith all of Indianapolis; parents, James D. and Marva Kay Smith of Mooresville; brother, Christopher Smith of Greenwood; and maternal grandmother, Cherie Louise Shields of Indianapolis. Family and friends are invited to pay tribute to Scott for his sacrifice during a visitation on Friday, July 1st from 5-8:00 PM and on Saturday, July 2nd from 12 Noon – 1 PM at Mt. Gilead Church, 6019 E. State Road 144 in Mooresville. A Celebration of Life Service will begin at 1:00 PM at the church on Saturday, July 2nd and he will be laid to rest in Mt.
