UMSTEAD, Scott Douglas, of Pineville, La., born in Richmond, Va., on May 8, 1972 to David and Pam Umstead, passed away on October 19, 2008, at the age of 36. He attended schools in Nottoway and Chesterfield counties. In his early years, he enjoyed being the "big brother" and teaching Lee his numbers and colors. He liked riding bikes and horses, and playing with his favorite dog, Kodi. Due to the progression of his disease (MPS III-A, Sanfilippo syndrome), he spent the last 14 years in the loving care of Pinecrest Supports and Services in Pineville, La. He was predeceased by maternal grandmother, Mary Louise Douglas; paternal grandparents, Harris and Nancy Umstead. Survivors include his parents, David and Pam Umstead of Midlothian, Va.; brother, Lee and his wife, Kayce, of Weatherford, Texas; maternal grandfather, Robert Douglas Jr. of Boerne, Texas; and several great-uncles and aunts and their families. A service of Witness to the Resurrection for Scott Douglas Umstead will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, October 22, at First Presbyterian Church, LaGrange, Texas. Interment service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Oak Hill Cemetery, Smithville, Texas. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
