Dear Wettlaufer family, I was shocked and saddened to learn from a friend about Scott. I am so sorry about your dear husband, father and brother. Our families have known each other for many years, our parents friends. I was in elementary school with Scott, at Barnum and Seaholm, too, but as we moved on to bigger schools, we were less in contact. Dearest Shannon, Shawn and Lauren. Our hearts go out to you. Your loss of Scott is ours as well. Scott was a man for all seasons: a talented artist, research scholar, and occasional athlete. Yet he never grew out of being the kind and unassuming midwestern kid with the sandy blond mop of hair. And he truly had one of the world’s great smiles.

His words have hung above our bed for thirty years, a wedding present that we will always treasure:

I am so sad to hear of Scott's untimely passing. I so enjoyed working with Scott & was honored to see some of his wonderful art work. He was so kind, warm and caring to everyone he encountered. He will really be missed. My heart goes out to his family.

Scott was such a dear friend, a fellow book artist and talented calligrapher. We got together regularly, with his wonderful Shannon, for lunches with a group of book artists, and I treasure those times. I and the rest of our group will miss him so much. I send love to Shannon and the family.
