Selva Jean Key Danley, 85, of Mount Airy, passed away Sunday afternoon, Aug. 20, 2023, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mrs. Danley was born Feb. 17, 1938, in Surry County, the daughter of the late Dock and Mollie Reid Key. Selva graduated as the class of 1956 valedictorian from Copeland High School. She was a loving and devoted housewife and a founding member of Jesus' Church of Corinth. Selva served as the church pianist and a choir member for many years. She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Lorri Danley Bowman of Mount Airy and Melissa and Tony Hamlin of Dobson; two sons and daughters-in-law, Chris and Tara Danley of Mount Airy and Kip and Kim Danley of Ararat; her grandchildren, Lindsay and Hal Epperson, Nicole and Aaron Moser, Trey Hamlin, and Molly Hamlin, all of Dobson, Zach Bowman, Reid Danley, and Maddie Danley, all of Mount Airy, and Hunter Danley and Heath Danley, both of Ararat; two great-grandchildren, Essie Raye Moser and River Kate Moser, both of Dobson; a sister-in-law, Patty Danley Marion of Ararat; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Danley was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Leonard Danley; a son-in-law, The Honorable Clifford Ricky Bowman; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Ruby T. Key, Dorothy and Sam Moore, and Melva and J.B. Greene Jr.; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Fred and Jettie Key, Hassell and Mary C. Key, and Barley and Mattie H. Key; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Charlie Posey and Alma Key Danley; and two brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law, Oliver J. and Jane C. Danley and Jack Marion. The funeral service will be held Thursday, Aug. 24, at 2 p.m. at Jesus' Church of Corinth,with the Rev. Dale Pack and Lindsay Epperson officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 1 until 2 p.m. at the church. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the love and compassion shown by the staff at Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, as well as her special caregivers, Kathy Whitener, Deborah Creed, Kari Jessup, Dixie Atkins, and Dee Hughes.
