Senior Horner, 96, of Miami, Okla., passed away June 28th, 2021, while surrounded by his family.
He was born April 11th, 1925, in North Miami, Okla. to Dallas and Tulah (Mills) Horner. After graduating high school, he joined the United States Army. He served his country in World War II and earned the rank of Sergeant. After discharge, he joined the United States Air Force Reserve, serving his country in the Korean War. He earned the rank of Staff Sergeant. His military service ranged from 1943-1953.
On November 28, 1950, he married the love of his life, the former Marilyn Whitcomb. They were married an amazing 70 years. They made their home in Welch, moving to Miami a couple of years ago. Senior worked for his dad in the Horner and Sons garage beginning at the age of 14. After the passing of his dad, he continued the family business, retiring at 80 years of age.
He was a longtime member of the Welch Christian Church, serving as an Elder for many years. He loved Kansas City Royals baseball, fishing, and quail hunting. He was retired from the Welch Volunteer Fire Department.
He is preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Sheila Horner; three siblings, Charles “Shorty” Horner, Junior Horner, and Virginia Jones.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn, of the home; two children, Cristi Becker and husband Bill of Miami, and Mitch Horner and wife Angela of Addison, Texas; a sister, Neva Essex of Miami; three half siblings, Al Horner of Katy, Texas, Jimmy Palmer of Commerce, OK, and Mae Mae Collins of Miami, OK; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and numerous good friends.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, June 30th at the Welch Christian Church. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, July 1st, 2021, also at the church. Minister Jesse Burns will officiate. Burial will follow in the Welch Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Tony Chenoweth, Mike Harden, Billy Hall, Jeff Harden, Butch Garrett, Ernie Callison, and Craig Duvall. Honorary casket bearers will be Joe Cox and Bob Neil.
