North Beach in San Francisco was to me Sergio Azzollini. The man behind what made North Beach a real slice of Italy in America. I shared a flat on Lombard and Powell in NorthBeach with his son Tony during college. It felt like I was living in ITALY and had been adopted by this Italian family. Being a Jew I quickly realized just how alike Jewish and Italians families are. Hard-work, complaining and lots of Love. Pasta in Lu of Matzah Ball soup cured everything.

I called him Dad.. He was absolutely a beautiful human being. Kind and loving. Knowing what to say when things weren't going well in my life. A very special relationship that started in 1996. I will never forget him. I am very sad. Words cannot really express what we are all feeling right now but I trust that we all will see each other again.
