Andrews Funeral Home - Gloucester Obituary

Seth Clements Dutton, 41, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Cedar Point Road in Heathsville on Friday, March 29, 2024.

He was born on May 26, 1982, in Williamsburg to William E. “Billy” Dutton and the late Jo Ann Clements Dutton of Gloucester County.

The longtime employee of Coastal Design & Construction, who attended Gloucester High School, enjoyed spending time outdoors.  Working for Jim Gunn was a perfect fit for the little boy who loved playing in the sandbox with his loaders and excavators. Seth was dedicated to his role over more than 25 years with the company’s complex projects, including various aspects of marine construction like dredging, installing jetties and breakwaters as well as the restoration and creation of tidal marshes and living shorelines.

While his work often required him to work far from home, Seth loved weekends with his wife and stepchildren. He was an outdoorsman and a prolific gardener who tended his many plants. He was a fantastic cook who could not only grill but was at home in the kitchen. The man, who could seem brusque at times, had a tender heart, especially for animals. His household ebbed and flowed with additions, including dogs, cats, chickens and even ducks, who somehow knew there were kind souls at Cedar Point Road.

Seth was known for “putting a smile on faces,” his elaborate practical jokes, and more than one friend remarked there was never a dull moment when he was around. He also enjoyed sharing the outdoors with family and friends. The avid hunter and fisherman was a member of the Greater Wicomico Sportsman Club.

He is survived by his wife Jessica Lofurno Dutton and his step-children Dew and Braedon Willett.

He is also survived by his father, William E. “Billy” Dutton and his partner Pat Emerson, his brothers Nicholas Clements Dutton and his husband Michael Stone of Glen Allen, Elliott Clements Dutton and his wife Lisa Marie Marston Dutton of Gloucester. He also leaves behind his brother in spirit Kevin Espiritu of Hampton and sister in spirit Cara Carmine Wiggins of Denver, Colorado.

Visitation will be Monday, April 8 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Andrews Funeral Home at 7192 Main Street in Gloucester.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society, P.O. Box 385, Gloucester, Va. 23061.
