Seungyong Sean Choi passed away at the age of 64 on March 12, 2025 at his family home in Yardley, Pennsylvania.
Seungyong was born to Chanmin Choi and Okhee Chun in Gangwon-do, South Korea in July of 1960. He attended Inha University, where he received a B.S. and M.S. in Chemistry. He received his Ph.D. from Wayne State University in 1994 with Professor M. E. Newcomb, after which he joined the team of Nobel Laureate in Chemistry, the late Professor Sir Derek H.R. Barton of Texas A&M University as a post-doctoral research fellow. He had a career of over thirty years in pharmaceutical research and development, co-authoring 30 peer-reviewed journals and patents. Most recently, he serves as Vice President of R&D and Process Chemistry at NJ Bio.
He was also a dedicated member of his local communities, having served as the President of the Korean-American Association of Greater Greensboro in 2011-2012. He was also a member of the community volunteer organization in the Incheon Area Jungwoohwe from his time at Inha University. Also, he is a member of Galaxy at Inha University, an academic and professional group dedicated to research and advancements in the field of chemistry.
Seungyong enjoyed volunteering, playing golf, gardening, planting trees and growing plants. He loved to spend time with his family outdoors, hiking, fishing, and kayaking, and of course playing with his dogs.
Seungyong is survived by his wife of 33 years Eunyoung Song; children Sarah Bendl (Jordan) and David Choi; and grandson Beckham. He is also survived by his siblings and their spouses Woongyong (Jinhee Kim), Myungsook (Hogeun Bae), Jungsook (Taehyung Kim).
Relatives and friends are invited to his Viewing this Monday evening from 7:00-7:45 P.M. at Bucks County Presbyterian Church, 1550 Woodbourne Road, Levittown, PA 19057. Funeral Service to follow at 8:00 P.M.
