Seymour Lapin Obituary

Seymour Lapin
September 17, 2025
Seymour Lapin, 88, passed away peacefully on September 17th, surrounded by his loving family. His life was a testament to kindness, love, and unwavering dedication, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Seymour was a devoted husband to the love of his life, Phyllis, who passed away in 2020; a wonderful father to his children and their spouses: Deb and Paul, Paul and Jamie, and Brad and Julie; and an immensely proud grandfather to Samantha, Isabel, Jack, Eleanor, Henry, Nathan, and Lilah. Seymour is also survived by his beloved extended family, including his brothers and sisters-in-law, Mark and Jennifer Lapine, Susan Lapine, James Lapine, and Sarah Kernochan; as well as his nieces and nephews.
Seymour was deeply committed to his hometown, Stamford, CT. He was born in Stamford Hospital and was a proud graduate of Stamford High School, where he lettered in basketball and tennis. After graduating from UCONN, where he played tennis and had a short stint in the marching band (cymbals), he embarked on a 50+ year career as a realtor, serving the Stamford community. His children never tired of meeting new people and hearing their stories about how Seymour helped them find their ideal home - always highlighting his integrity and kindness. He also volunteered for his synagogue and many local Stamford charities.
Seymour, also known by his nicknames Lefty and the Silver Fox, was a great athlete, a tough competitor, a patient coach, and a passionate sports fan. He loved playing tennis, basketball, racquetball, softball, and wiffle ball with his friends and family; he was a long-time sponsor of Stamford Youth Basketball and was a passionate (and long-suffering) New York Mets fan.
His greatest love of all was his wife of over 60 years, Phyllis, who didn't mind dropping the "e" from her last name. Their love was truly magical, inspiring everyone around them with their selflessness, humility, and zest for life. Seymour and Phyllis shared a bond that transcended words, and their children find peace knowing that their parents are finally reunited, holding hands, sipping their drinks-wine for her, Dewars for him-and kibbitzing about how proud they are of their beautiful, smart, and loving grandchildren and their amazingly close and loving extended family.
The family will hold a private ceremony to honor his memory.

Truly a special person and as kind as they come. Seymour helped us buy homes and was a caring friend. His witty jokes and happiness always made me and my wife smile. Sad to hear the news, and keep on smiling Seymour.
