Christine, I've only recently heard about your Dad. I regret not being able to attend his memorial service. Our mutual years at Ciba while sometimes frustrating were more bearable because he was there. I appreciated his friendship and knowing when a rational thinker was in the minority he was always available with his insightful mind and pleasant sense of humor.
Susan and I wish you well and will treasure our family times together.

As a neighbor of Maru and Shafik for many years I knew him to be a kind and gentle man, always with a smile on his face and always well dressed (even when mowing the grass!). A distinguished gentleman with an impressive resume and a heart big enough to lower a laundry basket into a storm drain to save a tiny kitten that the neighborhood children were attempting rescue. My condolences to those who are missing him.

This is sad! I worked for Shafik at Ciba. He was a good man and obviously very intelligent. He let me argue with him and never got mad. I never did win a argument though!
