SERVICE DATE and TIME CHANGED DUE TO IMCLEMENT WEATHER
Sharon Lee O’Keefe, 69, widow of Robert Dennis O’Keefe, passed away on January 5, 2022. A lifelong resident of Hampton, she graduated from Kecoughtan High School in 1970. Sharon had the honor of serving as PTA President of John Tyler Elementary School for 3 years. She worked at the Citizens’ Unit of the Boys and Girls Club for 12 years, where she started as a secretary and worked her way up to the Unit Director. Sharon later retired in 2005 as a Senior Recreation Professional with the City of Hampton after 10 years of service.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, William and Betty Hogg, her biological father Charles Newman, her sister Mary Ann Bierbauer and brother Johnny Hogg. She is survived by her sons, Robert D. O’Keefe, Jr. (Heather Boyko) and Shawn M. O’Keefe and grandchildren, Michael O’Keefe, Mark O’Keefe, and Christopher O’Keefe. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; along with many “adopted” sons and daughters.
Whether you knew her as Sharon/Sherry, Mrs. O’Keefe, Mrs. Sharon, Nama, Aunt Sherry or simply Ma it was impossible not to be impacted by her life and the legacy she is leaving behind. Sharon was dedicated to serving her community, church and family. We will miss her smile, infectious laugh, great hugs and her support, but the family takes heart in knowing she received a glorious welcome to Heaven by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and being reunited with the love of her life Robert.
A graveside service will be conducted, 12:00 PM Thursday, January 27, 2022 at Albert G. Horton Jr Memorial Veteran’s Cemetery. A memorial/celebration of life ceremony will be conducted, 7:00 PM Friday, January 21, 2022 at the Fort Monroe Community Center 100 Stilwell Dr, Hampton, VA 23651.
Arrangements are by R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home in downtown Hampton, 757-723-3191.

Sharon held a special place in the hearts of so many throughout her life. She was a tiny woman who has made a huge impact on the world she dwelt in. Amazingly, during the last 10 or so years that her light shined so brightly in this world, she chose to call me her Best Friend! Oh My, what an honor it has been! Those of you who know her laugh, her hugs, her kindness, her heart, the way she listened, how she corrected with kindness (wow, I sure experienced that too!) how she Loved her family,...

I want to start off by saying thank you, for all the great advice and scolding I needed to to become the man I am today. You watched over me like one of your own, from the boys and girls club in Hampton, all the way to Phoebus community center. You have touched so many people and you will never be forgotten. So again I want to say thank you so much, and you will alway be in my heart.

Mrs. O'Keefe known to everyone especially me as Ma. I remember meeting you when I first started going to the Boy's Club on Kecoughtan Rd. You had so much love inside of you, the good Morning Scip when I walked through the door. My heart ❤ dropped when I found out that you were called home to be with the Lord. Ma, I will always love you, and definitely miss you.
