TRAVERSE CITY — Sharon Louise Thomack was called to her heavenly home by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, May 29, 2006.

Sharon was born on Oct. 1, 1940, in Detroit, the daughter of the late George and Marion (Helgren) Mantyla. Sharon was very proud of her Finnish heritage. On Aug. 24, 1957, she married Neil E. Thomack, who survives.

Sharon was a longtime employee of Meijer, currently working in the gas station, where her friendly smile greeted customers daily.

Her family will remember her as a dedicated and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She will fondly be remembered for her love of the holidays and her ability to "whip up" a Halloween costume at a moment's notice. Her homemade pasties would melt in your mouth.

Together, Neil and Sharon are the proud parents of Cindy Thomack of Glendale, Calif., Jeff (Deb) Thomack of Traverse City, Dan Thomack, and Chris (Jennifer) Thomack of Troy. Also surviving are her brother, George (Nancy) Mantyla of Grand Rapids; as well as many nieces and nephews.

"Grandma T." was adored by Haven and Yardley Thomack of Traverse City, and Natalie Thomack of Troy. Sharon's grandchildren were the apple of her eye, and they will surely miss her hugs, kisses and special candy surprises.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 1, at Christ Community Church, at the corner of Seventh and Oak streets. Pastor Doyle Berg Jr. and Pastor Don Hadfield will be officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Sharon Louise Thomack Family. Envelopes will be available at the church.

Arrangements were made with the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home of Traverse City.

This obituary was originally published in the Record-Eagle.

I met Sharon about 5 or 6 years ago as I am a "regular" at the Meijer Gas Station. I'm there just about every day. When I'd catch Sharon's shift, she always greeted me with that wonderful warm, friendly smile of hers. We got to know each other on a first name basis. We'd share stories of our vacations, kids, health problems, etc... and always joke around like we'd been friends forever. Sharon surely had Jesus in her heart. You could feel it and see it within her through her caring and...

PATTY AND I WOULD LIKE TO LET YOUR FAMILY KNOW THAT ALL OF YOU ARE IN OUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS AT THIS MOST DIFFICULT TIME. FEEL COMFORTED THAT YOUR MOTHER IS IN "HIS" ARMS WHERE THERE IS JOY FOREVER

We will dearly miss Sharon's warm personality and wonderful laugh.
