God saw you were getting tired and a cure was not to be;
So he put his arms around you and whispered, “Come to me”.
With tearful eyes we watched you and saw you pass away;
Although we loved you dearly we could not make you stay.
A golden heart stopped beating; hard working hands to rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us He only takes the best.
Sharon "She-She" Laurette Thompson, daughter of the late Deacon Wilbert Lee Thompson and Deaconess Vivian Laurette Thompson was born on September 16, 1975 in South Hill, Virginia. On September 24, 2021 at Chippenham Hospital in Richmond, Virginia, God saw she was getting tired and welcomed her to rest in the arms of Jesus Christ.
Sharon was converted at an early age and baptized at Pleasant Hill RZUA Church, where she remained a member. She was very active in various organizations, including Jr. and Sr. Choir, Sunday School Secretary, Usher Board, Rising Zion, Hospitality Committee, and Youth Advisor for the committee. In her early years, she was a member of The Southside Community Mass Choir. Sharon was a delightful, helpful, and shining light at the church. She knew how to do everything. She could check the mics, sound system, copier, and regulate the air conditioner temperatures. She made sure programs were a success, especially the Senior Choir Anniversary. Working in cooperation with her dad, Sharon made sure numerous choirs were invited, programs were printed, songs were practiced, and choir members were dressed to impress. Her helping hands will be missed by her church family.
Sharon attended LaCrosse Elementary and Park View Middle during the early years and graduated from Park View High School in 1993. She was an outstanding member of the Dragons Girls basketball and softball teams; several times being named MVP in both. Her athletic abilities extended to the community as well. Sharon was a member of several softball teams including the Yai-Yai’s and Winfield and Sons Coed team. She was an outstanding player several times winning accolades for her skills and sportsmanship. Sharon loved all sports and would watch any games, but her heart belonged to the Pittsburgh Steelers. She was a diehard Steeler fan.
Sharon graduated from Saint Paul’s College where she received a degree in Accounting. Her expertise in accounting led to successful job experiences with St. Paul’s College and Global Safety Textiles, where she was currently employed.
Sharon loved her family and friends and would do anything for them. She was everybody’s ROCK. Although she was sick and her strength was waning, Sharon never faltered. She never showed outward signs of worry and distress, and would always say, “I’m doing alright”.
Sharon faithfully cared for her mom. Sharon made sure Vivian had an abundance of what she needed. Sharon loved her mother unconditionally. She showed love to others as well. Sharon checked on her aging aunts and uncles regularly. She was just faithful to everybody. When it was time for a cookout or other family celebration, Sharon would begin purchasing and organizing food and supplies. She had no problem pitching in to help cook; and seemed to enjoy it. Sharon’s strong and caring hands were felt outside the house as well. She operated the tractor and heavy equipment to maintain family properties. Serving as Secretary to the Independent Hunt Club, Sharon cared for the Hunt Club animals on the family farm. While doing all of this, she maintained a strong and loving relationship with her brothers, cousins, aunts, friends, club members, and associates.
There was a special love and connection, however, with her twin brother, Darren (He-He). Sharon loved Darren fiercely and communicated with him daily. She loved being around him and would often travel to Maryland to visit. There they would enjoy eating out, shopping, exploring new adventures, and relaxing. Darren loved Sharon just as much and spent the final days of her life with her. Darren watched over Sharon without tiring. He was there when she opened her eyes to see Jesus and took her last breath. No greater love has a brother than this, to lay down everything to see his sister Safely Home.
Sharon’s strength, help, kindness, and love will be a lasting memory. We will love her forever and smile as we remember her as one of “The Grannies” performing on our family reunion talent show. To our amazement, enjoyment and shock, Sharon stepped out of her usual reserved comfort zone and rocked!!
Sharon leaves to cherish her memory, a loving mother, Vivian Laurette Thompson of the home; two brothers Steven Thompson, La Crosse VA, and twin brother, Darren "He-He" Thompson (Friend-Joel Mallillin), Germantown, MD; nephew, Sidney Thompson; god-children, J’Mirah Simmons, Antoine Williams, Thomas Hartsfield, Faith Hartfield, and Zurail Johnson; aunts, Minnie Thompson, Eunice Logan, Deloris (Milton) Langhorne, Barbara T. Reese, Jean T. Shipman, Robbie T. Rogers, Mary Thomas, and Doris Thomas; uncles, Walter Thompson and Willie (Gladys) Smith; numerous cousins, who are more like brothers and sisters than cousins--we always played together as babies, grew up into adulthood, and are together again today in Love, Strength, and Unity; and a special friend, Corey Smith.
Special recognition and Thanks to Quianda Williams, LaShanna Hatley (Tyrone Williams), and Corey Smith for their tireless commitment to caring for our loved one.
Special thanks to Christy Tisdale Hartsfield, Amanda Taylor and Sharonda Shepard for their visits, kindness and support throughout Sharon’s sickness.
