To the family and friends of Lance Cpl. Shawn Hefner:
Please accept my remembrance of Shawn on the anniversary of his passing and know that he will never be forgotten.

Not a day goes by that Shawn and you aren't with me, Robin. As Gwen Olsen said, "He's closer than you think. Do him proud" and that you are, mama. What a wonderful hero you raised and how lucky I am that I had to know both of you. Hugs, my friend.

To one of my heart-charging Marines and his family...as I am currently serving again in Afghanistan, I am reminded of why I am here...for Marines like Shawn who served under me in 3rd Platoon, Delta Company, 2nd Amphibious Assault Battalion. May the Lord bless you and keep you. May His face shine down upon you and be gracious. May He hold you in the palm of His hand forever. Shawn was and forever will be a good Marine. Thank you Shawn for your sacrifice that so few will ever understand.
