Not sure what to say?

I met and interacted with Professor Reece about a year before his passing. It was immediate that I sensed what a quality person he was. We talked about 30 minutes, the whole time he made me feel important -valued. It was an honor to be in his presence and I'm not surprised by his accomplishments I'm reading here.

He always found time to answer questions and remember you when you showed up a few years later and then many years later. He was a great teacher and writing instructor.

What a wonderful English professor Shelley was! He led me into literary worlds that I didn't know existed. He inspired me to be the best writer I could be. Almost 40 years later, I still tell my children stories about his classes and I ask them to read the books that he had introduced to me. Beloved Shelley- He will always be well remembered.

I absolutely loved Professor Reece. He was my adviser during my grad program and taught me to how to probe and dig deeper. On a personal level, kind and benevolent human being. We both shared a love of Joyce and JS Bach. Hope to see you on the other side and we can share some laughs and intense literary discussion.

I'm Shelley's sister-in-law. He was always gentle and kind to me and my family. I loved him; I miss him. Carole

. The world is diminished without my dear brother-in-law, Shel, who helped me in my literary/poetry studies.

While he was serving as Director of Composition at Portland State University, Shelley Reece was among the first few faculty members in the US to begin reshaping the teaching of writing, challenging decades of formulaic instruction with rigorous linguistic and rhetorical explorations. I was fortunate to be studying at Portland State during this intellectual ferment, and, as I absorbed and implemented new ideas, Shelley encouraged me in my work and then helped me to enroll in a graduate program...

My husband and I live in Garden Home. One of favorite walks is our "Poets Walk" which takes us by Shelley's lovely home. We always stop to admire the garden and grab a poem from Shelley's box. I was also fortunate to take a poetry class with Shelley at PSU. He was truly a gentleman and a scholar. Our condolences to Shelley's family.
