Mrs. Evelyn Louise (Sanders) Samples, born September 27, 1931, the eldest child of the late Clifton Sanders and Emma Jean (Perry) Sanders transitioned peacefully to her heavenly home on Monday November 16, 2020 at her residence. She was a native of Marion, AL and resident of Mobile.


Mrs. Samples graduated Lincoln High School-Class of 1949, Alabama State University in 1953 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Secondary Education, University of South Alabama with a Master of Arts Degree. She began her teaching career at her Alma mater, Lincoln High School, Marion, AL. She retired after teaching for 30 years in the Mobile County Public School System (Dunbar Jr. High, Satsuma High School, and B.T. Washington Middle School). Mrs. Samples confessed Christ at an early age in Union Baptist Church, Marion, AL.


In Mobile, she & her husband united with the State Street AME Zion Church where she was an active and faithful member, Vacation Bible School Instructor, Boys Scout-Den Mother, Pulpit and Altar Guild, Stewardess Board, Class Leader, member of Sunday School & Tuesday Bible Study, Life Member of Lay Council, Life Matron with the Missionary Society and Deaconess Board. She was a faithful listener to the daily prayer line of the AL/FL Conference.


Mrs. Samples was an active (65+ years) and Life Member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated, Delta Theta Zeta Chapter. She exemplified all the qualities of Zeta - Scholarship, Service (Stork’s Nest), Sisterhood (Zeta Dove), Finer Womanhood (Zeta of the Year). Membership: Lincolnite Club, Life Member Alabama State University Alumni Association-Gulf Coast Chapter, Alabama Retired Educators Association, North Mobile County Education Retirees Association, Life Member of NAACP, Church Woman United.


Mrs. Samples loved serving the Lord. She had an infectious smile, a beautiful personality, a sense of humor, a compassionate heart, loved sending/receiving greeting cards and working with flowers in her yard.


Mrs. Samples was preceded in death by her devoted husband Warren C. Samples, her parents Clifton and Emma Sanders, brothers Clifton Sanders, Jr., Larnzo Sanders, sister Emma S. Hogue. She leaves to cherish her memory: a devoted daughter, Deborah J. Samples (Memphis, TN), one sister Jessie D. Sanders (Ft. Wayne, IN), sister-in-laws Vivian D. Samples (Mobile, AL), Luvenia Sanders (Youngstown, OH), aunt, Josephine H. Perry (Youngstown, OH), many nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, god-children, neighbors, friends, State Street AME Zion Church Family and “Lunch Bunch”.
