Not sure what to say?

I hadn´t talked to Sherm in a year or so. I had him on my mind and found out that he has passed when I tried to contact him. He was one of the good guys and I will miss him. I met Sherm back in the early 80´s when he was with Gillenwater, Nichols and Ames law firm in Knoxville. I worked as a carpenter for him and did the restoration/repairs when he moved into the house on Kingston Pike. We became friends during that time. He was the smartest man I knew, and the best attorney. And funny too....

To the Ames family my sympathy for you all I was a grade school friend of Sherman at Greenwich grade school I remember swimming in the quarry with several of our class mates from Greenwich from jim shook

Sincere condolences to the family. Sherman and I were high school sweethearts until I had to move away. We lost touch and it was very sad for me. We saw each other at one of the class reunions and did some catching up, even emailing for a while. I was surprised and sadden to hear of his passing. It seems he had a wonderful life and was a very caring and giving person. I am so sorry for your loss. With deepest sympathy, Janet Keck Davis

Dear Mrs. Ames and family and friends, I'm so sorry for your loss. I didn't know Sherman III but I knew Sherman I and II from my days as a farm hand in the Finesville area in the 1960s. I especially remember Sherman II's sporty hatchback Volvo backed up to the milk house door when he would come to treat an ailing holstein. And special thanks for them treating 2 dogs I took to them, one was mauled by its siblings and one hit by a car, and I never saw a bill for their services. By what I've...

I am saddened to read this news. Sherman sure left a mark on my heart and my life. He was one of the greatest coaches I was blessed to have for years. He was a master at balancing caring and discipline. God gave him many talents and he graciously shared them endlessly. What a great man, thank you for all you´ve done for many. Hugs

Of all the coaches I had during my significant participation in an athletic childhood/adolescence, Sherm was my hands down favorite. (Washington Swim Team). He mastered the balance of discipline yet remained affable. I wrote a short story about his wise and inspiring advice before a particularly memorable championship race and ultimately sent him a copy many years after the event. He responded with a wonderfully crafted letter, delighted in the recognition of his wisdom that yielded a...
