FARMERSBURG — Sherman L. Rehmel, 71, of Farmersburg died unexpectedly in Sullivan County Community Hospital emergency room at 11 p.m. Monday, June 22, 2009. Born in Vigo County on Feb. 11, 1938, he was the son of Carl and Dollie (Kittle) Rehmel. He retired as a senior master sergeant from the 181st Air National Guard at Hulman Regional Airport, Terre Haute. He was a member of the Meridian Street Church of Christ in Brazil and was a 1956 graduate of former Pimento High School. He was a graduate of Ivy Tech College with an associates degree.He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Randy Michael Rehmel, in 1994, and two sisters, Alice Iddles and Hazel Cody. He is survived by his wife, Rhonda Kay (Blake) Rehmel, with whom he celebrated their 50th anniversary on May 8, 2009. They were married on May 8, 1959. There are four sons, Carey Lee Rehmel and wife Sally of Lafayette, Brent Rehmel of Linton, Jan Rehmel and his wife Dede of Shelburn, and Timothy Rehmel and his wife Carolyn of Enid, Okla.; two daughters, Sherry Rehmel of Scott Air Force Base, Mo., and Kathy Ellis and husband Eddie of Fishers, Ind. His brother is Robert Rehmel and his sister is Virginia Liston. He has eight grandchildren, Jamie Rehmel, Lee Ellis, Brandon Rehmel, Tyler Ellis, Luke Rehmel, Kaylee Rehmel, Jessica Rehmel, and Ashley Rehmel. Funeral services are at 1:30 p.m. Monday in DeBaun Springhill Chapel with Bro. Herb Woollard officiating. Visitation is from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday and from noon until services Monday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Farmersburg West Lawn Cemetery with full military rites by the 181st Air National Guard Honor Guard.
