Byles Memorial Home - New London Obituary

Sherry K. Glidewell, 59 of Gales Ferry passed away 9:50amTuesday October 4, 2022at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in New London, CT due to complications from a 27 year long battle with crippling and severe Rheumatoid Arthritis and multiple other autoimmune and related chronic issues.

At the time of her death, she was comforted by family and friends, and was able to pass peacefully and finally free from the decades of pain.

Sherry was born on June 22, 1963 in Montoursville, PA to Walter E. Wilson and Barbara J. “Pat” Carl Wilson.  She graduated Muncy High School in Muncy, PA in 1981.  She married her high school sweetheart and devoted husband of 39 years, Charles M. Glidewell in 1983.

The couple raised 2 wonderful children, Mallory E. Glidewell Toula beloved daughter born in Omaha, NE in 1985, and Logan C. Glidewell beloved son born in Clinton, MD in 1989.  The couple suffered the tragic loss of their second child, Chelsea Marie newborn daughter in Omaha, NE in 1987, due to complications during birth.  The couple has 2 grandchildren Taliyah (girl) aged 6 and Ryker (boy) aged 3 to Mallory and her husband Jesse Toula and live in Westminster, MD.

Sherry was thrilled that she was able to attend her son’s wedding to Jeanne Signey Glidewell in August 2022 before being hospitalized.

As a working mother, Sherry graduated from the University of Rhode Island in 1995 with a bachelor’s degree in Dental Hygiene and practiced in various dental offices throughout southeast CT until she accepted the position as the Dental Hygienist at the US Coast Guard Academy in New London, CT in 1998, where she remained until her disease progression forced her to retire in 2018.

Despite her multiple chronic ailments, the couple remained active, traveling extensively with family and friends whenever they could.  Their trips were always a memorable adventure living life to the fullest.

Sherry will be remembered most for her enduring smile and positive attitude despite years of severe pain due to her RA.  Her positive uplifting personality and infectious laughter immediately warmed the hearts of everyone who met her, a truly sweet soul who served as an inspiration to so many.  She will be missed but never forgotten!

Sherry is survived by her husband Charles M. Glidewell. Her daughter Mallory Glidewell Toula, her husband Jesse Toula.  2 Grandchildren, Taliyah Toula and Ryker Toula. Her son Logan Glidewell and his wife Jeanne Signey Glidewell. Her parents Walter E. Wilson and Barbara “Pat” Carl Wilson of Huntingdon, PA. Her sister Barbara “Barb” (Wilson) Wagner of Nesbit, PA.  And the couple’s best friends and constant companions for 30 years, Steven and Susan Peabody of Ledyard, CT.

Sherry is to be cremated and her ashes held till her husband’s death.  She did not want any services or ceremonies.  Instead, she asked that the families hold celebrations of her life at some point in the future.

In lieu of flowers, cards or other sentiments, Sherry has asked that her friends and family honor her by continuing her legacy of compassionate caring and donate money or supplies to their local animal shelters, St Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105 or for those who are able to donate either blood or their time to help the American Red Cross meet the desperate need for blood to save more lives.

Not sure what to say?

Remembering Sherry’s wonderful heart and contagious laugh. Missing her lovely smile and sweet soul.

There are no words, in times like these, that ever convey sympathy accurately.
She was and always will be that ray of sunshine. Charlie, Mallory, Logan, family, and friends we send our sincerest condolences!

Mama glidewell was the best human being I´ve ever met . I am honored to have met her and laugh with her .

So sorry for your loss. I will always remember the good times we had together in high school.

Sherry was noticeably missing when I returned here last year, and the memory of her "infectious laughter" still makes me smile often. An amazing person I'm glad I had the pleasure of working with so many years.

I am saddened by the news of Sherry’s passing. I will always remember her laughter and smile from high school. My condolences to the family. An angel taken to soon.

I am sorry hear that Sherry lost her battle with RA. Truly a life taken too early. As others have posted I remember your big smile and laugh from high school. Condolences to your family

Sherry, I am so sorry to hear of your passing. Your personality in and about life overshadowed the pain you endured. I am glad your suffering is over, but you will be missed. We haven't seen each other in years, but the thought of you and Charlie still brings a smile to my face.

Charlie, although I have not seen you since graduation or class reunions, I do remember the loving relationship that you and Sherry had in high school. What a beautiful legacy the two of you created. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.
