Doing What She Wanted
Sometime back, Sheryl Rosenbaum filled out an e-mail questionnaire, which her friends passed on to her mother, Bobbie Rosner, after her death. One answer stands out for Mrs. Rosner, who cannot speak of her daughter, the oldest of three children, without weeping.

What job would you want if you could have any one in the world? The one she had, wrote Mrs. Rosenbaum, 33, an accountant and partner at Cantor Fitzgerald.

Mrs. Rosenbaum followed her father into accounting, knowing since childhood, when she helped out in his office, that this was what she wanted to do. She met her husband, Mark, when both worked for Arthur Andersen. Last Monday would have been their seventh anniversary.

By the time Mrs. Rosenbaum decided to quit and start a family, she had made herself so valuable at Cantor Fitzgerald that her supervisors wouldn't hear of it. Instead, they changed her hours and permitted her a four-day week, so she could stay and have children -- Hannah, now 3, and Sam, 17 months. But even on the mommy track, her talents and diligence earned her bonuses and a partnership, her mother said.

But not at the expense of family and friends. The last weekend of her life was typical. One day was spent traveling from New Jersey, where the Rosenbaums were building a house, to Long Island, for the baby shower of her college roommate. The other was spent at a mall with her mother and 82-year-old grandmother, shopping for jeans and tops. "And laughing," her mother said. "We always laughed."

Not sure what to say?

I lost a precious friend yesterday and am unable to attend the funeral as I am obligated to be in NYC today. So I went to the Ground Zero memorial to say kaddish for my friend. I noticed Sheryl''s name there and found it an appropriate place to say my prayer for both Sheryl and my friend. God bless Sheryl, her family and friends.

I miss you cousin Sheryl. I just went to your memorial sight. I love you and wish u were here.

Thought of you the other day, actually often when I pass the spot where you were going to build your house. Josh and Hannah would be on the bus together, we were so excited on Sept 10 at back to school night. I miss you and what could have been.

I still cannot believe you are gone. I looked up to you so much when I worked with you at Cantor. You were such a role model for me. You will be forever missed.

12 years has gone by yet your smiles and laughs live on. Rest in Peace, Sheryl.

My son and I touched your name at the 9/11 memorial.Though we will never know who you were, what you were like we will keep your memory and those with you alive. My prayers and thoughts to all Sheryl Lynn's loved ones.

Our entire family (Matt, Kat, Addi/mom, and Kent/dad) are thinking of you and your family. Thinking of simpler days when we lived next door to each other and I worked for your mom at Nature's Weigh.
Loved the pic Mark recently posted of you two online. We'll never forget you, Sheryl!

I think you a lot Sheryl but this weekend was especially hard. I remember the laughs we shared playing on the Tennis Team together and I will always remember your laugh and smile. Even though it's been such a long time since I saw you, I can still remember your voice. 9/11 will never be forgotten and neither will you!
