Shigeru Matsufuji Obituary
Shig was born in Hanford, California on April 23, 1923 to Matsutaro and Rui Matsufuji. He was born and raised in Hanford, graduating from Hanford Joint Union High School on May 29, 1942. Shig served in the United States Army from 1943 to 1945 with the 442 Regimental Combat Team. He received the Bronze Star for Heroism while serving in Europe. In 1979 Shig married Ritsuko Nakamura Tazoe Baldwin in Las Vegas, Nevada and they made their home in Hanford. She preceded him in death in 2005.
Shig owned and operated Shig's Service for more than 40 years in the Hanford area. He was a member of the Hanford Buddhist Church. His hobbies included fishing, drag racing and sports of all kinds.
Shig will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Shig is survived by his stepdaughter, June Tazoe-Hilson and husband, John of San Jose, CA; his stepson, Frank Baldwin and wife, Theresa and their four children, Allison, Kylie, Caleb and Emily, all of Lemoore, CA; two sisters, Teruko Ohashi of Madera, CA and her four children, Leslie, Cheryl, Michael and Marsha, and Kikyue Matsufuji of Hanford, CA; two nephews, Vic Matsufuji of Costa Mesa, CA and Jim Matsufuji of Selma, CA.
Graveside memorial services will be held on Saturday, September 11, 2010 at 9 a.m. at the Hanford Cemetery, 10500 10th Avenue in Hanford, CA.
