Shirley was a very sweet and gentle lady. She was a Brea icon and she will be missed by so many people. I hope that the family has found some peace and comfort. God Bless all of you.

I could always count on you to cheer me up and just give me positive answers when i was so negative about something. I too grew up in the neighborhood where the Bickel family lived. Then, as an adult, was fortunate to move in next door to John & Pam Bickel and across the street from Bob & Shirley. It would be hard to pick a favorite moment, but those Friday night popcorn events under the big tree in John & Pam's front yard will never be forgotten. I am so glad that my daughter, Linda, sent her little feeling that the music box was playing for the spiritual ones that have passed. It was, I think, a sign that my mother and Shirley are with each other again and having a fine time.

I remember Shirley's smile all the way back to when I was a little kid running around the streets of Arovista, Lime, and Jasmine Dr. My dad(Howard Bryden) would shout, "SHIRLEY BICKEL" every time he saw her. There was always that smile on her face! I was blessed to see that smile when I was back in town visiting my dad last July! I took him over to the Senior Center and there was Shriley, Bob, and Karen! I had not seen them in years since moving to Kansas City in 1993. There was her smile...

My condolences go out to the Bickle family. Everytime I was around your mother she was always smiling and happy. She enjoyed talking about her family she loved so much. Shirley made you feel as if you'd known her for years when she talked to you. I looked forward seeing her at the Brea functions with Karen. She will be missed by all.

I hesitated adding this extra little note...but decided to do it anyway. As I was reading the posts yesterday & adding my own, a miraculous thing happened. I have a Christmas Dreamsicles music box sitting on an end table next to my computer desk. It was part of my holiday decorations that I haven't put away yet. It doesn't work, have wound it many times and it won't play. I SWEAR I did not touch it while I was reading & typing...but it began to play!! Lasted just a few moments, but definitely...
