Mrs. Shirley Barnes Britt, age 79, of Lumberton, passed away on Monday, January 20, 2014 at Golden Living Center in Lumberton. She was born in Robeson County on September 17, 1934, to the late H.O. Barnes and the late Cleon Fields Barnes.

She was a member of East Lumberton Baptist Church in Lumberton where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir for many years. She was loved by many.

Mrs. Britt is survived by her husband, Maurice E. Britt, of Lumberton; her son, Jeffrey Britt of Lumberton; two daughters, Julie Anne Britt of Alexandria, VA, and Belinda Gayle Locklear and husband, Patrick of Lumberton; one sister, Mona Reaves and husband, Howard of Lumberton and two grandchildren, Ashley Holmes and husband, Rex and Makaila Locklear.

A time of visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 from 7:00-9:00PM at East Lumberton Baptist Church in Lumberton.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 23, 2014, at 11:00AM at East Lumberton Baptist Church with Rev. LeRoy Burke and Rev. Michael Bowen officiating. Burial will follow at New Hollywood Cemetery in Lumberton.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Alzheimer's Association of North Carolina, 1305 Navaho Drive, Suite 101, Raleigh, NC 27609.
