Gurnee Salata Funeral Home Obituary

Shirley Cisneroz, age 73, of Park City, Illinois passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 3, 2024. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Cisneroz.

She was the youngest daughter of the late Edward & Josephine Pankiewicz. Shirley was born and raised in North Chicago, Illinois, attended the local schools and graduated from North Chicago Community High School.

She worked various jobs before making a career in the civil service. She began at Fort Sheridan, then transitioned to Great Lakes Naval Hospital, and retired from Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center with a combined time of over 35 years in the Federal Government.

Shirley had a zest for life which was evident throughout her lifetime. She loved to read, enjoyed working on different sorts of puzzles - no matter how challenging and could never pass up a craft fair or festival. She enjoyed traveling to Door County, Wisconsin and had an adventurous side that included participating in geocaching. She was an avid Chicago Bears fan and faithfully cheered them on no matter what! Yet, her favorite times were spent gathering with family & friends for events.

She is lovingly survived and will be greatly missed by her brother Dennis (Kay) Pankiewicz; her long time friend, Christine (Mike) Ehemann; nephew Mike Harscher; great-nephews, Michael and Steven Harscher; and many more cherished nieces & nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Ann Burton and niece, Dawn Harscher.

A visitation will take place from 10am - 11am on Friday, January 12, 2024, at the Gurnee Salata Funeral Home 4190 Old Grand Ave, Gurnee, IL, 60031. Burial follows  at Ascension Catholic Cemetery 1920 Buckley Rd. Libertyville, IL 60048.

Donations can be made in her memory to the American Heart Association

May your memories of the wonderful times you shared with your loved one comfort you and your family, today and always.

Shirley always had a smile when I would see her at the Navy Hospital or Lovell. She was a joy to work with.

Shirl, we are in shock and disbelief still not knowing that you would slip
away so quickly. Thanks for being so kind and helpful to all of us who came in contact with you at Great Lakes Naval Hospital. You were Ambassador for our clinic. Thanks for taking us under your wings showing us what we needed to know.

To Shirl’s family, Dennis, Mike, Michael, Stephen, nieces and others, your Sister and Aunt was a beautiful, compassionate, considerate person who was inclusive of all...
