Pompano Beach, FL – Shirley A Cogswell, 85, of Tamarac, Florida passed peacefully on Thursday, July 7, 2022. Shirley was born on September 29, 1936, in Springfield, MA to the late Columbia Grimaldi and the late Harold Magagnoli. She married her first love David Daniel MacPhail Senior who proceeded her in death in 1982. Together they raised a beautiful family, daughter Debra Louise Barrow and two sons, the late Keith Thomas MacPhail and the late David Daniel MacPhail, Jr. Shirley loved to cook and enjoyed traveling as well as many hobbies including, gardening, knitting, crochet, needle point, ceramics, oil and water painting. Shirley is survived by her loving husband Jim Cogswell of Tamarac, FL, her daughter Deb Barrow and husband Dave of Pompano Beach, FL, a daughter-in-law Shannon MacPhail of Southwick, MA, a brother Peter Magagnoli and wife Donna of South Hadley, MA. Shirley also leaves her grandchildren, Melanie Burkhardt and husband Chuck of Florida, Chris Barrow of Florida, Ben Barrow and wife Kendal of Washington, Jessica Garcia and husband Tony of Colorado, Melissa Droeske and husband Trevor of Massachusetts, Kim Bryan and husband Adam of Washington, Brad Barrow and wife Katrina of Washington, great grandchildren, Flynn Burkhardt of Florida and Elliana Garcia of Colorado, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Shirley was also preceded in death by her younger sister Marguerite Stebbins. “You were gone before we knew it, and only God knew why. A million times we needed you, a million times we cried. If love alone could have saved you, you never would have died. In life we loved you dearly, in death we love you still. In our hearts you hold a place that no one could ever fill. It broke our hearts to lose you, but you didn’t go alone. For part of us went with you, the day God took you home.” Author Unknown. Calling hours are Sunday, July 17, 2022 from 11am-12pm at the AGAWAM CURRAN JONES FUNERAL HOME, 745 Cooper Street followed by burial in Springfield Street Cemetery. Saying goodbye to someone we love is heartbreaking. I find peace and happiness in the special memories that I shared with my grandmother, Shirley. I can only hope that there is comfort in knowing that someone so special will never be forgotten.
