DOWN, Shirley Ann - Of Flint Twp., age 75, died Sunday, April 3, 2011 at her residence. Funeral service was held 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Pastor Allen West officiated. Burial in Evergreen Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the family. Shirley was born in Flint on October 24, 1935 the daughter of the late Elmer and Nevlyn (Rideout) MacAlpine. Shirley grew up in Davison graduating from Davison High School, Class of 1954. Throughout the years she was involved in various community organizations with her children and the after school program at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Shirley was employed and retired from Bristol Road Drugstore. Shirley was a beloved mom to many and had countless close friends. Surviving are son, Mark and girlfriend Toni; daughter, Cathy Down; grandchildren, Mark Down, Nicole and husband Josh Beaird, Thomas Down, Jessica Ashley; great-granddaughter, Maya Ashley; brother, Robert MacAlpine; sisters, Kay Churchill and Sondra and husband Alois Hansen; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Mary Faith Down; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husband, Thomas, sister, Sue Haas, in-laws, Harold and Juanita Down. Your condolences may be shared with the family at swartzfuneralhomeinc.com

Shirley was and always will be a part of my life. She was a wonderful mother-in-law to me in my short time in the Down family. We had many chats in her home of family love and support,and what it means. She taught me a lot about my self. She was a beautiful women. And loved QVC... My thoughts are with the family ! I knew Shirley thur my brother-in-law,Kenneth Down and his wife and my sister, Mary Down. Whenever I saw Shirley, she was always smiling and she will be greatly missed. My prayers go out to her family and friends. Love Karen Scott
