Shirley Wiltse Dunn

Although this is a much belated note, I would like her family survivors to know that I am most grateful for the research Shirley did regarding Papscanee Island where my ancestor was indentured from 1637-1643. Without her work, I would know practically nothing about the first farms on the island.

Shirley and I worked together on many research projects. We were among the founding members of the Esquatak Historical Society, and we often shared research information. She was my very close friend. She was an excellent, thorough researcher, and she made many important contributions of value to historians and archaeologists, I treasure many memories of her, of nearly 50 years.

I first met Shirley as one of the other founding members of the Dutch Barn Preservation Society in the 1980s - she brought great passion & knowledge to our Dutch Barn explorations and studies - over the years we had many interesting discussions together including at her home and in many historic Dutch Barns that we were measuring & photographing - fortunate to have known her - she will be missed...!

I am so sorry to learn of Shirley's death. She was instrumental in the historical charting of the City of Rensselaer, including writing the federal and state applications for our Historic Registry Districts. She provided me great insights into my Van Rensselaer house and the Bath neighborhood, along with guidance on National and State Registry projects and the VanRensselaer family.
