Shirley M. Gibbs

What a truly amazing teacher. Everything was to be looked at with the frame of history. From the Kennedy assisanation to the murder of Marilyn Monroe (her favorite subject)! She has had a major impact on so many lives may she rest in peace with the angels!

Ms. Gibbs was a wonderful and influential teacher. I consider it a blessing to have been her student. Will never forget the WW2 / holocaust segment. A wonderful lady. Powell Patterson class of 78

Ms. Gibbs was the teacher at West that directed me to teaching. Her unit on the stock market was the best lesson I ever learned. Being a Tribune paper boy, I learned about insider trading since we used the previous day's paper for our trading information. More than once she was heard to say, " Mr. June, are you done talking?". What a great lady.

I will never forget Ms Gibbs passion for teaching history and current events. I was in her class during the watergate hearings. She kept urging us to go home and watch, to view history in the making! She truly made history come alive and inspired my continued interest in it.
