Not sure what to say?

Like my brother, David Nolan, I have fond memories of Shirley Greenwald, who was our neighbor when we were growing up in Bayside. In addition to inviting us to our first Seder, Shirley sewed a cozy blanket for one of my first baby dolls and then, best of all, allowed me to play with a real baby, the adorable Peggy. She also took me to my first real concert, a cultural event that I still remember, decades later. Shirley was kind, generous and cultivated -- an admirable woman.

There will always be a warm spot in my heart for Shirley, who was a wonderful neighbor in Bayside in the 1950s. I remember her kindness in inviting me to a seder, teaching me to sing "Oh Christmas Tree" in German, and serving me my first pizza. My parents kept up with Shirley and Bill over the decades, and I enjoyed seeing them on their visits to St. Augustine. My thoughts go out to Ted, Alison, Nancy and Peggy on your loss. May we all do as well as our parents did!
