Shirley Ann Jackson

February 3, 1940 - January 3, 2025

Mrs. Shirley Ann Saunders Jackson, age 84 of Roanoke County, Va. departed this earthly life on Friday, January 3, 2025, at her residence in Salem, Va. She was born on February 3, 1940 in Ferrum, VA to the late Aaron Saunders and Nannie Matt Gibson Saunders. She was joined in Holy Matrimony to the late James A. Jackson Sr. on February 22, 1964, in Rocky Mount, Va. They resided in Roanoke County, raising a family of five sons. Shirley was united in fellowship with Shiloh Baptist Church (Salem), but before that, she was also a member of Big Hill Baptist Church (Roanoke County) and First Baptist Church (Salem). She loved the Lord, Pastor Adrian E. Dowell, and her Shiloh Church family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James A. Jackson Sr.; five brothers, John, Joe, Charles, Edward, and William Saunders; and six sisters, Rosie James, Bertha Wade, Irene Poindexter, Alice Adkins, Virginia Edwards, and Ruth McDaniel. Those left to mourn her passing include five sons, Aaron (Georgette) Jackson, James Jackson Jr., Jay (Sonya) Jackson, Jeno (Ellen) Jackson, and Jerry (Angela) Jackson; eight grandchildren, Vanessa, Tanisha, Ryan, Brittany, Jasmine, Brandon, Juwan, and Myeisha; 10 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

A viewing of the body will be held at 12 p.m. on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at Shiloh Baptist Church followed by funeral services at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at Shiloh Baptist Church with Rev. Vivian Simmons officiating. Interment will be in the Saunders Family Cemetery, Ferrum, Va.

I ask for prayer for the entire Jackson Family. While I did not personal know Mrs. Jackson, I know quite well her son, Dea. Jerry Jackson and his wife and family.
