Shirley Kram Obituary

KRAM--Hon. Shirley Wohl, passed away Friday morning, August 21. Beloved wife of the late Bernard, dear mother of Steven Kram (Marilyn), loving sister of Harold Wohl, devoted grandmother of Natalie and Benjamin. Judge Kram was appointed as a United States District Court Judge for the Southern District of New York in 1983. Prior to that, she served as a New York State trial judge for over ten years. Judge Kram was a graduate of Brooklyn Law School, and was co-author of "The Law of Child Custody." Services will be held Sunday, August 23, 10:00am at "The Riverside", 180 West 76th St. at Amsterdam Ave., NYC.

Shirley Kram was one of the most distinguished, intelligent, and wonderful women I have never known. She was a magnificent judge, and it is a shame that the judiciary will miss her.

My deepest condolences to the family. I had the honor of appearing before Judge Kram. She was a consummate professional, compassionate and exacting, respectful of those who came before her but insisting on the highest standards of professionalism. A great credit to our judicial and adversary system, she will be sorely missed as a jurist and role model.
