I met Shirley when she visited the Oregon Institute of Marine Biology (OIMB) with the UO College of Arts and Sciences Advisory Council. She asked us what was OIMB´s greatest need. I said "a library" and it wasn´t long before she and Jim made that library, named in honor of Jim´s parents, a reality. Our marine laboratory community was so blessed to have met her, and anyone reading her obituary knows her generosity and caring touched so many others as well. My thoughts are with the family...
