Shirley Sayers Obituary

CLEARFIELD - Shirley J. 'Jean' Sayers, 92, a resident of Clearfield, passed away on Feb. 13, 2026, at Penn Highlands Clearfield.

Jean was born on Feb. 14, 1933, in Clearfield, a daughter of the late Ralph and Harriet Pentz.

Jean retired from Kurtz Brothers and was a very active member of the West Side United Methodist Church. She and Jane Shugarts were head of the nursery for many years. She was a member of the kitchen committee for a long time, preparing funeral dinners, chicken and biscuit dinners, and many other meals for the church. Her outgoing personality and free and easy laugh will be missed by her family and friends.

Jean loved to vacation in Ocean City, Md. She enjoyed Maryland steamed crabs and the music festivals at Ocean City. Jean's caregiver, Linda Little, filled Jean's life with love every day. Thank you Linda for everything you did.

The family would also like to thank Penn Highlands emergency room and second floor staff for making Jean's last days totally comfortable. Also, the family would like to thank Jean's church family at West Side United Methodist Church for your cards, visits and encouraging words. They were really appreciated. Also, Pastor Steve, thank you for your prayers and visits with Jean. That meant a lot to all the family. God Bless you All.

Jean is survived by her husband, George Sayers Jr., whom she wed March 27, 1954; two sons, Mark Sayers and wife Kim, and Mike Sayers and wife Bunny; three grandsons, Michael, Daniel and wife Chyanne, Matt and wife Sasha; fourteen great grandchildren; and a special niece, Roxanne Feeney and husband John; a brother, Gary Sayers; a niece, Johanna Scott; and two nephews, Jonathan Williams and David Williams and his wife Heather.

Jean's three favorite words when talking to her family were 'I Love You.'

She is preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Vickie who died on July 10, 2025; sisters, Oremay Swales and her late husband George, Ruth Cochran and her late husband Jim, Betty Lumadue, and Maxine Reid and her late husband Dick.

In honor of Jean's wishes, there will be no public visitation. Burial will be in the Rockton Cemetery.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the West Side United Methodist Church, 317 Nichols Street, Clearfield, PA 16830.
