Shirley J. Smith, 89, of Pen Argyl, passed away, Saturday, December 2, 2023, at her residence.  She was the wife of the late Blaine Jennings Smith who died April 8, 2020. 


Born in Pen Argyl, June 5, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Alba (Perinotto) Williams. 


Shirley was a 1952 graduate of Pen Argyl High School and was employed by the former LAR Sportswear, Pen Argyl and Palmerton. 


She was a member of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Parish, Pen Argyl and a former member of UNICO.


She is survived by a son, Dean M. Kemp and his wife Tammy of Pen Argyl, a step daughter, Margo R. Smith-Baratta and her husband Stephen G. of Bethlehem, three grandchildren, Tyler Kemp and his partner Sarah Barnett, Carson Kemp, and Nico Baratta and his wife Kellie McGlynn-Baratta, and a daughter in law, Carol Kemp. 


In addition to her husband Blaine, she was preceded in death by a son, Edward R. Kemp, a sister, Marlene LeDonne, and a brother, Roger John Williams. 


A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at 10:30 AM at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church, 300 W. Babbitt Avenue, Pen Argyl.  There will be viewing hours, Tuesday evening beginning at 6 PM until 8 PM at the Ruggiero Funeral Home, LLC 126 E. Pennsylvania Avenue, Pen Argyl, and Wednesday beginning at 9:30 AM until 10:15 AM at the church.  Interment will be in St. Elizabeth’s Cemetery, Pen Argyl. 


In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be offered to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, www.stjude.org, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
