Shirley M. Tavernier, 82, of Altona, died September 17, 2012 peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family. Born in Burke, N.Y., on March 25, 1930, she was the daughter of Edward and Evelyn (Reynolds) Trombley. Her first marriage was to Charles R. Spinner. He predeceased her on October 28, 1969. Her second marriage was to Frank Oliver. He predeceased her on September 19, 1980. Her third marriage was to Leonard Tavernier on June 12, 1982, in Holy Angels Church. Shirley worked as a seamstress at Tru-Stitch and Warner in Malone, NY, a food service attendant at Wassaic State Hospital, Wassaic, NY and a Beautician from her home and a Home Health Aide. Shirley is survived by her husband, Leonard, of thirty years and four children: Her daughter, Sandra Spinner of Altona, NY, her son Charles Spinner and his wife, Terry, of Altona, her son, Gerald Spinner and his wife, Kathy, of Altona and her son, Dean and his wife, Susan, of Altona; Sixteen grandchildren: Gregory Spinner and his wife, Jennifer, Angela Mercay, Matthew Kilmer, Kerry Hupp, Arliss Spinner and his wife, Kelly, Rueben Spinner and his wife, Amanda, Adam Spinner, Charles Spinner and his wife, Shelley, Jessica Spinner and fiancé, Anthony Basto, R. Jamie Palmer, Stephen and his wife, Raquelle, Jason Spinner, Emily and her husband, Corey Hart, Timothy Spinner, Rebecca Spinner and Abigail Spinner; 12 great grandchildren, Abigail, Bailey and Zoey Spinner, Melissa and Amber Mercay, Meadow and Gabriel Palmer, Eliza and Lydia Spinner, Tristan Basto, Genevieve and Jude Hart; one sister, Elnora Smith of Ellenburg and a brother Floyd Trombley of Satsuma, FL and many nieces and nephews. Besides her husbands, she was predeceased by her parents; her son, Edward J. Spinner, her daughter, Deborah M. Palmer, three sisters, Mildred and Evangeline Prue, Betty Boyea; seven brothers, Leonard, Ransom, Richard H., Asa, Ovid, Herbert and Horace Trombley; grandchildren: Nathan Kilmer and Lucas Kilmer. Shirley was a woman of great faith who loved her family above all else. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, working in her vibrant and beautiful gardens and making sure everyone had enough to eat. Calling hours will be held at Chateaugay Funeral Home, Chateaugay, NY on Thursday, Sept. 20 from 4-7 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Edmunds Church, Ellenburg, NY on Friday, Sept. 21 at 11 a.m. Burial will take place at St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery, Constable. Donations in her memory may be made to the Altona Volunteer Fire Dept., 480 Devil's Den Rd., Altona, NY or Hospice of the North Country, Tom Miller Rd., Plattsburgh, NY. Special thanks are offered to the staff of CVPH, ICU, R3, R7 and Hospice of the North Country for the excellent care given to Shirley during her illness.
