I'm back and wish to tell all of you, who read this message, that I will always remember Shirley for the wonderful colleague and friend she was to me for a long period during my 37 years in the field of science education leadership. I am thankful that our paths crossed and stayed on a common course of learning and sharing over the years. Shirley was a strong and helpful friend in many of the sectors she served in Oregon science education. It was a pleasure to share our trip through the years...

To the entire family,
I just recently learned of the passing of both your dad and mom. I want to offer my deep condolences. I have many fond memories of
hanging out at the Thielen house in Laurelhurst.
Your mom even came to the hospital when i had my first child. That ment so much to me. Your dad always teased me by calling me
Clarissa. They were so special and I loved
them both dearly. Thanks for sharing them.
All of you take care!

In honor of one of Oregon's best science teachers, I want the world to know that Shirley was an excellent colleague, teacher of science, and professional among her peers. Always at the ready to contribute to the call of improving science experiences for all of those who crossed her path. For me, as the Oregon Department of Education Science Education Program Specialist K12 (1970-1994), Shirley helped in many ways to promote state and national science standards that are now the foundation of...

I taught with Shirley at Kellogg Elem. school for several years. She was a great science teacher and I remember when she got the NASA award. She was a mentor to alot of teachers in the school district. The kids loved Shirley and so did I. My very very best to her family and I know she will be missed very much. Gary Tash(Bend Oregon)

Dear Thielen Family,
I am sorry to hear of the passing of Mrs. Thielen (that's how I knew here from her days at Kellogg Middle School. Please take comfort in the fact that she greatly and positively influenced so many of us through her teaching. My involvement with her class even extended beyond 8th grade. When I was a sophomore in high school, she allowed a fellow former student and I to join her on her class trip to Clarno in Eastern Oregon.
Just so you know, I do...

Shirley has always been a good friend. Always smiling! Always active! The world will miss this charming lady. I met Shirley at the geology department at PSU around 1980. We were both in an honors earth science class! I still remember our trip to Charleston, Oregon and the crab fest Staff Geologist Gene Pierson put together for us. Shirley was of course at the center of it all. I will miss her. I am glad I called her in the not too distant past just to chat. She's probably teaching St....
