Shirley Watson Obituary

Shirley Adams Watson, 89, of Richmond, Virginia, formerly of Farmville and Crewe, Virginia, peacefully entered the presence of the Lord on October 17th, 2025. She is survived by her beloved children, Harry A. Wise, Jr., Brenda Watson Baril (Steve) and Lynne Watson Craig, along with her cherished grandchildren, Bentley Logue Rysedorph (Ben), Adair B. Logue, and Lewis "Max" Craig. She is also remembered by her sister, Betty Adams Weisinger, and her brother George Adams.

Shirley was a woman of remarkable strength and kindness, known for her creative spirit. A gifted master gardener and former president of her garden club, she received numerous accolades and awards, including blue ribbons for her stunning floral displays. With the support of her husband, Max, she cultivated a large beautiful rose garden at their home, where visitors could stroll along winding paths lined with vibrant azaleas and majestic dogwoods.

Her creativity extended beyond gardening; Shirley was renowned for her exquisite floral arrangements. In the 1970's she was among the pioneers to integrate Asian minimalist techniques into her work, creating striking, avant-garde designs to go alongside her massive classic rose arrangements. She also had a passion for baking, perfecting the art of making sea foam candy and delighting family and friends with her cakes, pies and other delectable treats. Receiving one of her baked goods or Christmas cookies was a true joy.

Shirley's influence and generosity touched many lives. Her legacy of creativity will continue to inspire those who knew her, reminding us all of the beauty in seeing the world through an art.

We will be having a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the Farmville Baptist Church.

I'm very sorry for your mom's passing. My unique memory of her is when you had all the girls over for your birthday slumber party. The 2 things I remember, We watched Coal Miner's Daughter and she made crepes for breakfast and I wanted to be in the kitchen with her because I thought that was the fanciest thing d ever seen. Even though I had a great baker with my Gammy, she never made crepes. And your mom said, don't you want to go in there with the others? Lol May peace and great memories fill yours and your family's heart as you navigate this loss.
