DEEP CONDOLENCES TO ABHYANKAR SIR ,a great mathemtician . FROM DEPARTMENT OF APPLIED MATHS B.N.COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING ,PUSAD -445215 INDIA

Dear Yvonne,
I have just learned about the passing of Shreeram. My thoughts are with you all. Please remember that you are very welcome in our house in Toronto as it always was.
Pierre Milman

I took a course with Prof Abhyankar my first year at Purdue in 2002. He invited me into his home and lectured to me personally, as well as fund my first conference trip as a wide-eyed first year graduate student. I was in awe to simply be in his presence, and I express my deepest condolences to his family. His spirit lives on through his work and those students lucky enough to have known him.

Our condolences to Yvonne and to all the family in these moments of deep sorrow and pain.
It is also a great loss for all of us mathematicians.
Mathematics has lost one of its best children, Sheeram S. Abhyankar.

Yvonee,

I dont know Sir Shreeram Abhyankar personally and I am not involved with Mathematics. But I have read about his great contribution in his field, and as a proud Indian, look to him as an inspiration towards achievement and excellence. May his soul rest in peace.

I will always treasure the numerous hours I spent in discussions with him, both at his home in Pune and at TIFR. His passion for mathematics and his generosity in sharing it will always be remembered.

My most memorable moments with him would be those spent at the porch outside his residence on Ashok Path in Pune. Swinging on the zoola, Professor Abhyankar used to ramble his best, criss-crossing between Indian mythology, Marathi poetry, personal reminiscences and, of course, Mathematics. One could experience his multi-faceted personality. In fact, it is wrong to call it multi-faceted, separating these facets is losing the grip on his personality. And in all this streaked the critique in...

Dear Mrs. Abhyankar,
My deepest condolences to you and your family. In our most recent paper, what was most crucial was the method of Prof. Abhyankar called ``Abhyankar's Lemma". His mathematics continues to live forever in our minds and hearts.
