Sid was a lifelong friend of the Van Winkle family - a 70 year association. He was Charles Van Winkles best friend (everyone in town called him Van). In the last 10 years or so - we came to visit Sid every summer while we were volunteering in Jackson or other nearby National Parks. The last visit was at the nursing home in September. We had a wonderful visit with him then - he told us what a great life he had and how he valued his family and his friends. He was frail but laughed easily...

I was in the guard the same time.
But I was in Rexburg Company B 116th.
I became aquainted with him what a
a terrific individual he will be missed
