Obituary

Sidney L. Hanson, 66, Hibbing, died Sunday, March 2, 2008 in the Silver Bay Veterans Home in it's Alzheimer's wing. He was born Nov. 30, 1941 in Graceville, Minn., to Ralph and Mary Hanson. He graduated from the Chokio High School in 1959 and then entered the U.S. Navy from 1959 to 1962. He married Sharon Wade on May 21, 1961 in Chokio, Minn., and had made their home in Hibbing in 1968. He had worked for Sears as a manager and for Manney's shoppers as a salesman. He was a member of the VFW 8510, The Elks Lodge and the AMVETS Post 0012. Sidney enjoyed good times with his friends and family, which included season passes to all Hibbing High School events. He loved to watch his children's and grandchildren's sports events or a good boxing match. As a hobby, Sidney was a woodworker and had made special treasures for most of his grandchildren to remember him. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Sharon; children, Don (Terri) Hanson of Hibbing, Dan 'Sid' (Karen) Hanson of Cloquet, Minn., Wade 'Putter' (Karol) Hanson of Lakeville, Minn., and Mary (Jerome) Koetter of Swanville, Minn.; his grandchildren, Mitch, Chris, Alyssa, Adam, Andrew, and Abby Hanson, and Travis, Stephanie, Ellie and Matthew Koetter and his sister, Beverly ((Rodger) Wohlers of Madison, Wis. FUNERAL SERVICES:10:30 a.m. in the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Hibbing. The Rev John O'Donnell will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial. Visitation will be in the Dougherty Funeral Home, Hibbing, Thursday, from 6 to 8 p.m., with parish wake prayers at 7:45 and on Friday in the church, from 10 a.m. until service time. Burial will be at the Maple Hill Cemetery. Honorary Pallbearers will be his grandchildren.

My condolences to you all during this time. I was fortunate to know Sid, Sharon and the kids as well as I did through hockey and the shop. Sharon, you and Sid were great supporters of all our youth activities. I am thankful for all the wonderful memories. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. The world has lost a great man. Dear Sharon,
I am in DC playing nanny to my grandson for the month of March. I just read Sid's obituary online. I am so sorry for the loss of your good friend, husband, and dad & granddad to your kids & grandkids. You had one of the better marriages and for that you are blessed & have wonderful memories. And you have been there for him during his long disease process. Again, I am so sorry for your loss and know that having your family & friends with you at this time will mean...
