Not sure what to say?

Mr. Sorkin saved my life. I never thought I was particularly special and had a family that enjoyed reinforcing that. The first day I walked into the branch at Thorpe he exclaimed "I've been waiting for you. Do you know what your reading score is?" He placed me in honors classes, including his Early World History class. He had me tutor two girls from Mexico, run for class president, work in the office. By the end of my freshman year I knew I was special, different, worthwhile. And I knew I ...

Mr. Sorkin was my favorite Assistant Principle. He lived around the corner from me within walking distance. I cannot tell you the many memories I have of this wonderful man. He will be missed by many, among the being the Bowen family.

My sincere condolences, Mr Sorkin was such a great man in whatever he did at Bowen; I remember him fondly.

Sid was a good friend to me and my children in Sinai and Bowen days. Smart, practical, funny, good deed doer....a mensch!
He opened the door to a culinary adventure for one of the Cox's....who might still be on a waiting list if not for Sid!
We send sympathy and good wishes to Sam and David, and their families.

One of my free periods during my high school years was spent working for Mr. Sorkin in the Annex Building. My recollection of him is that he was a fair and consistent administrator but also a kind and funny man. I'm sure there are countless others with similar memories. Mr. Sorkin will be remembered.

I have such fond memories of Mr. Sorkin. He was our principal when my freshman class was the last class at the Thorpe Branch. He was very encouraging, made me think I could do great things. I'd stop by to see him at the main building and visited a couple times when I was in college. He always was delighted to see me and was so positive. My deepest condolences to his family.

So sorry to hear about his passing. I remember Mr. Sorkin as my Vice-Principal at Bowen. Rest in peace.

We were members of South Shore Temple, and I attended Bowen for a short time. Mr. Sorkin was a wonderful and kind man. May his memory be a blessing.

It doesn't seem as though two decades have passed since my cousin Sid wrote his book, Bridge to an American City: A Guide to Chicago's Landsmanshaften. I was fortunate enough to have been able to work with him on the book in a minor capacity. I was impressed with the depth of his scholarship, his energy, his dedication to his subject. He created, for me, a bridge to a world I never could have known. Sid had an impact on countless people and I feel fortunate to have been one of...
