I remember coming back from college to visit you at the gym and I got the word that you passed. It broke my heart. I´m blessed to have the time I did with you. You believed in me when I didn´t believe in myself. It hurt when I heard of your death because you told me to go to college and boxing would be here when I finished. I was looking names up from my past Air Force days and saw this. Srgt Epps was my supervisor at Hasting Air Force Station, Hastings, Nebraska. What a great soul. He took care of me as a young airman and was a fair man. Prior to me leaving for SouthEast Asia, he gave great advice on life. I was also helping him manage administrator work at the station’s NCO Club. He cared about people and their well being. He was a great person and my experience meeting and working with him, makes me forever...

Where do I start! First off my condolences to the Epps family, Silas is a good man! He did so much for me and others in our community from life lessons thru boxing in the basement of Phillis Wheatly to giving out food off the back of his truck!! I share many memories with this man, road trips across our region ( the states of sc nc ga fl tn) filled with many jokes and endless laughter! He played a major role in my life and I could never thank him enough!! I live out of state now and hate that...

Silas I'm sorry I missed your funeral it was very sad when I got the news you was like a father to me not only a great boxing coach but a great leader I remember the times when we went on boxing trips and it was only me and you. You always believed in me and told me I'd be world champion oneday. I still remember the first day I signed up for boxing I was 10 yrs old I miss you silas gone but never forgotten I hope to see you again someday Phyllis Wheatley center never was the same without you....

Silas I appreciate all of the time you put into me, shaping and molding me; not only teaching me boxing but teaching the real meaning of how to be a man. You were more than a boxing coach you were a true hero in my eyes. I love you and I miss you.
