With the Super Bowl approaching, the family of Simon T. Cox Jr. thought often of their deployed football fan in Iraq. "He was so excited about sports and his family," said Dorothy Duff, his mother-in-law, recalling an animated Cox watching ESPN. "He would get so involved and yell at them ... ''You''re kidding me!''" Cox, 30, of Mesquite, Texas, was killed Feb. 2 when a roadside bomb detonated near his tank in Taji. He was assigned to Fort Hood and was on his second tour. Cox earned a bachelor''s degree in English from the University of Texas at Arlington and wanted to be a high school teacher after his service, having worked with students at Fort Worth''s Polytechnic High School. He also served as a youth minister at churches in Dallas and Mesquite. "Our youth here are devastated because he really meant a lot to them and spent a lot of time with them," said the Rev. Mark Mills, pastor at Eastridge Park Congregation Methodist Church. "He carried some of them through some tough times." "He was a good, compassionate young man," Duff said. He is survived by his wife, Jeni Duff; and sons, James and Simon.

Hello,
We realize that we are very late to express our deepest condolences, but we wanted to let your family and friends know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this holiday season and several of these will be dedicated to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and hometown of Simon T. Cox US Army 1st Lieutenant.
We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is...

To the family and friends of 1st Lt. Simon T. Cox:
It has truly been my honor to sign Simon's guest book these past few years. Unfortunately, due to complications from my Multiple Sclerosis, this may be the last message I'm able to write. Please forgive me and know that Simon will always be remembered in my home.
With love and respect ~ Peggy

Jeni, James and Simon,
Thank you for you service and that of your husband and father. We know not that path that God sets for us, sometimes it is long and sometimes it is short. Simon walked that path without fear as he knew the arms of God wrapped him in Love and in due time he would see you all again.
