Sheldon T. Banks Funeral Chapel Obituary

MITCHELL, Mr. Solomon-age 68 passed Friday, March 28, 2014 at his residence. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at Serenity Funeral Chapel G-2340 W. Carpenter Rd., Flint, MI 48505. Calling hours are 12:00 noon -8:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2014 with a jazz memorial celebration from 6:00 p.m. -8:00 p.m. at Serenity Funeral Chapel.

Mr. Solomon Mitchell was born December 17, 1945 in Lamar, Mississippi Benton County the son of Solomon and Helen (Griffin) Mitchell. Mitchell grew up as the youngest child and only boy with eight sisters. He learned how to drive a tractor trailer, semi-truck, and other trucks. Before coming to Flint he drove semi trucks and he also had a green thumb, he could grow anything. He loved to plant flowers and grow gardens. After 40 years of service at Flint Metal Fab Mitch was a member of local 659 retiring in 2006 to grow his plants and flowers. He loved working on cars especially old cars. He found his true love when his cat Mr. Kitty arrived four years ago.

Mr. Mitchell leaves to his memory: children, Larry Hudson of Lamar, MS, Patricia Johnson of Memphis, TN, Angie Robinson, Lecedrick Mitchell, Amanda Mitchell and Jennifer Hobson all of Flint; sisters, Mamie Hampton, Jewel Walton, Katie Hampton of Lamar, MS, Eunice Glover of Chicago, IL, Eura Flakes, Margie (James) Allen all of Flint; a host of nieces and nephews as well as a host of other relatives including: caregiver and special friend Rosa A. McBride and Jones. He was preceded in death by: sisters, Mattie Foster, Mary Riddle; parents, Solomon Sr. and Helen (Griffin) Mitchell; several nieces and nephews. In honor of Mr. Mitchell the family request floral donations.
