Not sure what to say?

I became good friends with Sonja when I was doing research on the Macarty/McCarthy family at the New Orleans Public Library. She was a huge help to me and so generous with sharing her family information.

To Ms. McCarthy's Family: I was a student in McCarthy's health class at SUNO. She was the most authentic, transparent professor I've ever met. To say she was one in a million is an understatement. May God comfort you in your loss and may Ms. McCarthy rest well. Deepest Sympathy,

Ms.McCarthy taught me health and physical education at SUNO in the late 80´s. I also became her sorority sister during that period. I remember her so well as a very sweet and empathetic person. May she forever rest in peace!

Like many of Sonja's friends, our first connection was through research at the library. We were both regular visitors, she for her family, and in my case on 19th century opera in New Orleans, where I helped with information on the famous McCarthy case at the French Opera House. And from there we shared also her interest in helping others with their research projects as well. I will miss her good humor, her ready smile and infectious personality. Having know Sonja will remain a treasured...

To the family..."The life of the dead is place in the memory of the living." ... May the memory of your loved one and God's love comfort you and mend your wounded heart. God's love, Eugenia

Dear Sonja, May you rest in peace after a glorious life of teaching and sharing with others, with passion and commitment. You taught us where we came from and showed us where we need to be going. May all your loving family be comforted by the blessings you have given us. Your cousin, Sabrina McCarthy

I did research every Saturday at the NOPL Louisiana Collection for many years. I met Sonia there. She too was a regular researcher and we became friends. I have so many wonderful memories of her. I moved to San Francisco after Katrina so did not see her every week. I made a trip back to New Orleans and went up to the library. One of the librarians phoned Sonia and she came down to the library so we could see one another again. I have so many precious memories of her. What a special...
