Not sure what to say?

Our hearts go out to John and the entire Madden family at this difficult time. We are so glad that Sophie was a part of our lives. We will remember her as a strong woman, who loved her family, her friends, her flowers, tennis and cooking. She brought people together and reached out to those around her, always with a smile on her face. We will miss Sophie and only regret that we could not be in Ellison Bay this summer to say goodbye in person. Much love to you all.

So many thoughts of Sophia and John and their family. Sophie was an intelligent, gracious, and generous woman who enriched the lives of those who knew her. She would gather a circle of friends into her lovely home and gardens, in Door County, and share laughter and easy conversations. I count it as a gift in my life to have met Sophia. I keep her and John and her family in my prayers.

John and family., my heart goes out to you., I´m so fortunate to have gotten to know Sophia., what a beautiful person inside and out.., my condolences.., she will be missed deeply.., love Terri

Dear John and family, it is with profound sorrow that Barb and I heard of the passing of Sophia. The Madden family name is always in my mind and the Madden family will always be in my heart. From our early introduction in 1956 until now the name Madden and Lake Geneva are synonymous. I remember so many happy times involving Papa Joe, always Mrs. Madden, Joe, Mary, you, Jim and Margaret Ann. You were always quite a character with quick wit and intelligence. You have had such sadness this year....

John, my condolences to you and your family. After all this time, some fifty years ago, I remember a wonderful dinner prepared by Sophia at your home. We met via Paul Kaefer.

A beautiful soul just left us.

Dear John, My sister (who lives in Wheaton, IL) called me this morning to let me know the very sad news of Sophie's passing! While it has been many decades since our days in the French dept. at Marquette, I have always held the fondest memories of Sophie, and I'm so, so sorry to hear that she has passed! I think the last time we could meet was when Miki and I were headed to Singapore in summer of 1975. I am so sorry that we didn't stay in touch! Sophie was such a permanently beautiful...
